Microsoft renames Azure AD to Microsoft Entra ID

A year ago Microsoft announced the Entra product family to gain more trust and achieve higher security in every digital experience and interaction.

By making the protection of identities and access an primary goal, Microsoft envisions an new era for security. With this renaming Microsoft is showing their commitment to simplify secure access for everyone.

With this name change, there are no actions required from your end. Microsoft will do the renaming, but functions, APIs, login URLs and PowerShell commands will not change.

Only the name of Azure AD will change. This will also include the names of the licenses. The following licenses will change in name:

When will this happen?

Currently Microsoft is announcing all changes to their customers. The new name rollout will start in August 2023 and should be completed at the end of 2023.
